Kodak Ektachrome: Grand Chenier & NOLA incinerator

Shot in my Yashica MG-1.

Ektachrome (the non-professional version was sold under the name Elite Chrome) was Kodak’s last slide film, until they ceased production this year. It was close to Kodachrome in look, and was often used when that look was desired but higher shutter speeds were needed, or it had to be developed in the field where access to the specialized Kodachrome equipment and chemicals weren’t available. I had one roll that I decided I should use before it expired more than it already was. Some of the NOLA shots looks weirdly sketched-in; I think that’s because I was shooting in overcast conditions. I don’t know why it should have given them that look, but I like it.

cross-processed Fuji Velvia, shot in the Lomo LC-A+

I hadn’t planned to cross-process this roll, but decided to when I was done shooting. I’m not crazy about the results. Other cross-processed Velvia photos I’ve seen have had a more purple cast, but this roll came out very red. I can just shoot a roll of redscale if I want results like this; it’s kind of a waste of good slide film. Oh well, live and learn.

lomographers of acadiana: alligator festival

I was initially planning on having this meetup indoors somewhere, as it’s still pretty hot. But I saw this on my list of Louisiana festivals and decided I couldn’t miss it. Luling is in St. Charles parish and not too far a drive from New Orleans, so it’s a fairly big one.

If you’ve never had alligator meat and have a chance to try it, I recommend it. I’ve been eating it for years. It doesn’t taste like chicken, but rather more like a “meaty” fish like swordfish or tuna.

These photos were all shot in my Lomo LC-A+. One was a roll of Kodak Gold and one was a roll of slide film that I decided to have cross-processed. Most of the photos are of the cheesy carnival part of the fair, because that was the funnest part to photograph. But there were also craft booths and lots of food booths.

first experiment with slide

I’ve never really used slide as it’s supposed to be used before. I’ve shot it, but only to have it cross-processed for wacky color results. I started paying more attention to slide during the whole “death of Kodachrome” thing. I bought a couple rolls of Fuji Velvia, in which the colors are either “vibrant” or “bilious”, depending on whether you’re talking to someone who thinks it’s an improvement on reality, or someone who calls it “Fuji Velveeta”. I shot this in the LC-A+, partly at Grand Isle and partly at Palmetto Island State Park. Exposure and color saturation have not been altered; this is what the film looks like as shot.
