A bunch of grumpy old farts have seized on the above photo and are using it as another far-fetched excuse to bellyache about Obama. Something about how the terrorists have won, since he’s not wearing his suit jacket, or some such bullshit. Let’s quote one of these fucktards, Andrew Card:
“The Oval Office symbolizes…the Constitution, the hopes and dreams, and I’m going to say democracy. And when you have a dress code in the Supreme Court and a dress code on the floor of the Senate, floor of the House, I think it’s appropriate to have an expectation that there will be a dress code that respects the office of the President.”
I think the Constitution is better symbolized by, say, not torturing prisoners of war in secret detention facilities or illegally spying on American citizens; but po-tay-to, po-tah-to. Dress code was probably a priority for the Bush administration because when you’re wiping your ass with the Bill of Rights, having a shiny surface becomes all you got going for you.
You know what this picture conveys to me? A guy who is working hard. If President Obama wants to loosen his tie and roll his sleeves up, it’s fine with me.
